Gaylon Wayne Christie went to be with the Lord, surrounded by family and loved ones on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Gaylon was born August 22, 1936 in the small farming town of Holland Texas. He is the only son of Floyd Portman and Audrey (Elza) Christie. The majority of his life was spent with his wife, Jane Levy Christie whom he met and married in 1962. Together they raised three daughters and recently celebrated 51 years of marriage this past April.

Gaylon began his radio career in 1954 as a DJ with KTEM – Temple while attending Temple Jr. College. His career spanned 50 years of being a DJ, General Manager, Executive Manager and later co- owner of a small market radio station, KOOV in Copperas Cove, Texas. He used the radio station and his God given talent of a voice for many good works from raising money for needy families, support of the Central Texas Children's Center, the Peaceable Kingdom, to the awareness of the needs of military families stationed at Hood or deployed.

Gaylon had a unique talent for identifying young country artist and hosting live concerts for those newcomers. New artists that later became superstars such as George Strait, Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw and many more.

The list of civic and professional accomplishments and awards are too numerous to list and are highlighted by his induction into the "Country Music Radio Hall of Fame" last February in Nashville, Tennessee. Gaylon sold his beloved KOOV in 2000, and his focus shifted to being a good "PawPaw" to his seven grandchildren, tending the livestock at his small ranch in Mills county, and serving Christ at the Lifeway Fellowship Church in Killeen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Nelta Christie Schiller and a grandson, Jerrod.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Jane Christie of Nolanville; daughters, Michele Christie Jaeger, Denise Christie Martin and her husband Russ of New Braunfels and Julie Christie Hagey and her husband Rob of Harker Heights. Seven grandchildren are also left with many fun times and precious memories:Tyler Stubblefield, Amanda, Julia and Kathryn Jane Martin, Christina, Trey and Clayton Hagey, sister, Beavelly Christie Khoring and her husband Lee and nephews Monte and Steven Khoring and their families.

Memorials may be made to Lifeway Fellowship Church, Central Texas Children's Center, 4001 E. Elms Rd., Killeen, TX 76542.
