Milwaukee - Concelebrated Mas of Christian Burial for Fr. Harold V. Heaney, a former Navy chaplain, was offered Thursday, May 26 at St. Augustine Church.
Heaney, who died Saturday, May 21, at age 67, served most recently as a member of the volunteer staff at Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center, Memphis, Mich.
A Milwaukee native, he attended Immaculate Conception Grade school, Pio Nono High School and St. Francis Seminary, where he completed studies for the priesthood.
He was ordained June 6, 1946 at St. John Cathedral by Archbishop Moses E. Kiley.
He served as assistant pastor briefly at St. Francis de Sales, Lake Geneva, and for seven yers at St. Jude, Wauwatosa.
He served as a Navy chaplain from 1953 to l970, during which time he participated in a naval expedition to Antartica, prusued graduate studies in guidance and counseling at Notre Dame University and was assigned to duty in Vietnam.
After leaving military service, he was assigned to the pastorate of St. Patrick, Fond du Lac, in 1971. Before going to Michigan he served as associate pastor at Christ King, Wauwatosa, in special ministry to the inner city, and as chaplain at St. Mary Nursing Home.
Suviviing is a sister, Marion Heaney.
Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
