son's obituary:

Kenneth Henry Gies was born in Wheeler, WA on June 23, 1930, the only child of Henry and Mollie Gies. He died on April 21, 2011 at the age of 80.
He lived in Moses Lake, WA. until the age of 20 when he moved to Portland for a short time. His three children were born during his first marriage. He lived most of his adult life in Lakewood and Olympia. Ken was in the grocery business his entire life and at one time owned his own store, Ken's Supermarket. His last job was as a salesman for FFV Cookies. Ken was always a hard worker and took pride in doing an excellent job. He was constantly active until increasingly poor health slowed him down in the last few years of his life. In retirement he loved being a part of the RV crowd. He spent his winters snowbirding in Arizona, and loved to shop at the flea markets.
Ken is survived by his son, Larry Gies (Linda); his daughters, Sharon Munoz and Joanne Gies; and granddaughter, Abbie Chalcraft (Doug). He was preceded in death by his wife, Adrienne; and his son-in-law, Pete Munoz.
He will be dearly missed. At his request, no services will be held.
