DUST TO DUST - On Wednesday afternoon, June 9th, a funeral service was held over the remains of the Rev. Dr. Balch, in Trinity Church, Holderness. As in Grace Church, Detroit, the regular burial service had been read, a special service was used here, consisting of sentences read by the bishop.

The body was carried by eight bearers and a long procession of friends and neighbors followed. The committal service was read by the bishop, the earth was thrown on the coffin by Mr. LeRoy. In a lovely nook in a corner of this ancient churchyard was laid our friend to rest, the pine trees over his grave singing a soft and soul-like dirge. And never was there a lovelier burial place than this sweet spot in the valley of the Pemigewasset River.

Several years ago Dr. Balch bought the Livermore farm in the town of Holderness, across the river from Plymouth. Here he has spent his summers, occasionally preaching in Trinity Church, one of the oldest churches in the diocese, and which borders on his estate.

1st mar. 4/10/1839.
