Gerhard Becker
Gerhard Henry Becker was born on May 7, 1928, in Penn Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. He was the son of Fred and Ida (Otto) Becker. Gerhard was baptized as an infant on May 28, 1928, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on May 17, 1942, both at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Penn Township. He received his education at country school in Penn Township. Gerhard entered active military service in the United States Army on January 24, 1951, and served his country during the Korean War. He received an Honorable Discharge on January 9, 1957.

On May 10, 1953, Gerhard was united in marriage to Melva Tessmer at Zion Lutheran Church in Green Isle, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with two children, Randall and Gail. They shared 2 years of marriage until Melva passed away on June 29, 1955.

On August 22, 1964, Gerhard was united in marriage to Myrtice Dahlke at First Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with four sons, Keith, Jeffery, Grant and Michael. Gerhard and Myrtice resided and farmed in Penn Township. They shared 49 years of marriage.

Gerhard was a life-time dairy farmer. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Penn Township, where he served as a deacon and treasurer. Gerhard was also a member of the New Auburn VFW Post #7266.

Gerhard had a gentle smile and a love for children. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.

When Gerhard needed assistance with his daily care, he became a resident of Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord, Minnesota, on November 10, 2011. Gerhard passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at the Glencoe Regional Hospital in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 85 years. Blessed be his memory.
