Mr. George David "Jim" Garber, 85, of North Olmsted, Ohio, died Monday, Oct. 2, at Bradley Bay Nursing Home, Bay Village, Ohio.

He was the husband of Helen Shipley Garber, whom he married Feb. 24, 1940.

Born June 10, 1915, in Frederick, he was a son of the late Glenn O. and Margaret Zeigler Garber.

Mr. Garber received his education in Frederick schools and graduated in 1932. He attended the University of Maryland.

He was employed at the Glade Valley Garber Baking Co., Walkersville, until he entered military service during World War II. He served in Germany, and then in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of captain.

In 1947, Mr. Garber began work with Amoco Oil Co., working in Frederick, Baltimore and Cleveland before retiring in 1972.

He was then associated with Herbert Larange Inc., brokers in commercial and industrial real estate.

Mr. Garber was a member of Westlake United Methodist Church and Columbia Lodge 58, AF&A Masons. He was an avid golfer.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five cousins, Dorothy Shipley Winpigler of Middletown, Edward Zeigler of Ellicott City, and Robert Zeigler, Virginia Sprankle and Lulu Dansberger, all of Hagerstown.

Mr. Garber was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn O. Garber Jr.; and one sister, Clara M. Garber.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert E. Manthey, pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to either Joanne Grossnickle Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 518, Union Bridge, Md. 21791, or a favorite charity.
