Esther Elizabeth "Toni" Achilles, 90, went home to be with our Lord on January 31, 2014, in South Hutchinson. She was born December 7, 1923, to Peter and Elizabeth Goossen Nikkel, in Inman, KS.

She moved to California in 1933, where she attended schools in the San Joaquin Valley, graduating from Turlock High School in 1942. She attended San Jose State College and Samuel Merritt College of Nursing. She graduated in 1947. She married Lee Harper, a lieutenant in the Air Force, the same year. She moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1950.

She enjoyed being a nurse for many years and later became an artist. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in San Jose, California. She was an active member of Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church in Excelsior Springs, MO., as well as Forest Park Presbyterian Church in Hutchinson, KS, until 2006.

She was divorced from Lee Harper in 1981, and married Dr. Robert Achilles in 1982, at which time she moved to Beaumont, Texas, where she lived for 10 years. She moved to Excelsior Springs, MO., and remained there for 10 years. The Achilles moved to South Hutchinson, Kansas, after retiring.

She is survived by: her husband, Robert; three children, Jeffery Lee Harper and wife Anna Lisa, Costa Rica, Coleen Morris and husband Craig, Liberty, MO., and Dr. Bradley James Harper and wife Robin, Vancouver, WA.; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Harper, Hake, CA; grandchildren, Dennis and Michael Harper, Daniel Morris and wife Kristy, Drew, Breegan, and Cory Harper, Marco Lee Harper; five great-grandchildren; and stepson, Dr. Jack Achilles and wife Sandra and their children Jenny, Todd, and Dr. Jeanette Achilles.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Carly Morris, four brothers, and a sister.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at a later date with burial in the North Inman Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, KS, 67501.
