Ronald L. Oberle, age 78, of Richmond, died Friday, January 31, 2014, at Reid Hospital. Born September 27, 1935, in Richmond to John J. and Rose E. Kellner Oberle, Ron was a life-long resident of Richmond. He was a 1954 graduate of Richmond High School, where he was a proud member of the football team. Ron earned degrees in chemistry and art, focusing on sculpture, in 1959 from Earlham College. He was President and CEO of Oberle & Associates, Inc. and Crane, Inc. for nearly 50 years. Ron was a past member of the U.S. Bank Advisory Board for 32 years, and a past member of the YMCA Board and Connersville Vocational School Board. He was the 2005 Junior Achievement Man of the Year. Ron was a 2012 Earlham Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Ron was proud to be the building contractor of Holy Family Catholic Church and many other well known buildings in the area. He enjoyed his home in Hilton Head, traveling, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Eleanor McManus Oberle; children, John (Rebecca) Oberle of Richmond, Rebecca Oberle of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Kathleen Oberle Bateman of Richmond; Ecuadorian exchange student "daughter", Maria Carrillo Morales; six grandchildren, Ella Oberle, Chandler Bateman, Christopher Ronald Oberle, and Chelsea Lang, all of Richmond, Christina Oberle of Texas, and Cpl. Joseph R. Oberle of Okinawa, Japan; "granddaughter", Diana Bravo Carrillo; sister; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Oberle, and parents. Visitation for Ronald L. Oberle will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Short Prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Doan & Mills Funeral Home followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 815 West Main Street, Richmond, with Father Kevin Morris, Father Todd Riebe, and Father Frank Eckstein officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery.
