Alphonse John Veerkamp
age 96, a lifelong Belleville resident passed away Friday, January 31, 2014. He was born Sunday, June 3, 1917 in Decatur, Indiana, son of the late George & Ida (Redelman) Veerkamp.

He is survived by six children; Darlene (Luther) Viers, Carol Edwards, Linda Owens, Pat Veerkamp, Barbara (David) Rayburn, Tony Veerkamp, 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Alphonse was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Mary Veerkamp, and son John Veerkamp.

He worked at the Willow Run bomber plant in 1942 before he was called to serve with the Army in WWII. There he was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, reassuring his love to serve his country. Alphonse retired from the Ford Motor Company Ypsilanti Plant in 1975. Alphonse was devoted to his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 3-8 P.M. and Monday, February 3, 2014 from 10-11 A.M. followed by a 11:00 A.M. funeral service at David C. Brown Temporary Viewing Chapel, 500 E. Huron River Drive, Belleville, Michigan with Father Thomas Cusick officiating. Interment will follow at Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
