Funeral for LTC (Retired) Billy Ray Penick, 82, Lawton will be at 9:30 AM Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Paradise Valley Baptist Church, north of Lawton with Pastor Ordean Nelson officiating.
COL Penick died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at his home.
Burial with full military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
He was born January 27, 1932 in Meers, Oklahoma to Robert Earl and Flora Lee (Campbell) Penick. He married Marietta O. McGuire on January 31, 1952 in Lawton. During his Army career COL Penick served one tour in Korea, two tours in Vietnam, one tour in France and numerous duty stations. His decorations and awards include the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Senior Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with Three Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Master Parachute Badge, Meritorious Service Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Legion of Merit, Three Overseas Service Bars and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. He retired in 1980. Following his retirement he was a tag agent for fourteen years.
COL Penick had served as the Chairman of the Comanche County Rural Water District #1 and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Fort Sill Federal Credit Union. He was a member of Paradise Valley Baptist Church and Hancock Masonic Lodge in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Survivors include his wife, of the home, two sons, Mark Robert Penick, Ridgeland, South Carolina and Bret Ray Penick and his wife Mary, Lawton, five grandchildren, Jeri-Marie Kennedy and her husband Patrick, Tampa, Florida, Melissa Kay Seiwert and her husband Dan, Fort Worth, Texas, Matthew Ray Penick, Lawton and Morgan Marie Penick and Mason Mark Penick, both of Lakeland, Florida, five great grandchildren, Savannah Elizabeth Kennedy, Cameron Conley, Callie Seiwert, Christian Seiwert and Grace Stormer-Penick. He is also survived by two brothers, Carlton E. Penick and Robert Penick and his wife Jessie Mae, all of Lawton and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, a brother, Earl Penick and a sister Ruby McClung preceded him in death.
