Dausman was born in Germany and came to America with his parents when he was 14 years old. He built and operated the tobacco factory at 16th & Poplar Streets and also had a half interest in a tobacco factory in Alton, IL with Mr. D. G. Drummond. He had sold all of his interests in the tobacco business and built a home in the country to retire shortly before passing away. He was survived by a wife and three sons.
