Ruanna Johanna Stenke
Ruanna Johanna Stenke, the daughter of Peter Mohlmann and Julie Mueller Mohlmann, was born in Kimball Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. During her years of youth, Ruanna attended rural schools in District 73.
On December 16, 1926, she was united in marriage to Louis John Stenke on the farm in Selma Township, Cottonwood County. From that time, Ruanna and Louis farmed in Cottonwood County on several farms. To the family, 7 children were born. Besides raising her family, Ruanna enjoyed various crafts, especially quilting and crocheting. The fruits of her work were evident in great abundance in her home.
Mr. Stenke died in 1977. Ruanna continued to live in the area and had been active in Senior Citizens activities. Being a member of the Lutheran Church through her life, she had been a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. Most recently, she had been living in the Hillside Manor. Having been hospitalized for just more than a week, Ruanna died at the Windom Area Hospital on Sunday, the 20th of March. Through the grace of God, she came to live to the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 10 days.
Survivors include 4 children: Lorraine Stenke of San Antonio, Texas, Robert Stenke of Monticello, Rolland Stenke of Honolulu, Hawaii and Esther Seffel of San Antonio, Texas, 5 grandchildren; Mari Nakamura, Jody and Mark Seffel, Tammy Stenke, and Kelly Waterhouse; 5 great grandchildren: Misa and Kanae Nakamura, Cassie Angell, Dustin and Devin Waterhouse. Also surviving are 3 brothers and 2 sisters: John Mohlmann of Witchita, Kansas, Pete Mohlmann of Mt. Lake; Julia Wilson of Portland, Oregon, Bertha Kelley of Two Harbors, and Hulda (Mrs. Marshal Staples) of New Hope.
Besides her husband, Ruanna was preceded in death by 2 sons and 1 daughter.
