LLOYD KERN, 61, JACQUES SPUR RETIREE

LAPWAI Lloyd Kern of Jacques Spur, a retired Potlatch Corp. lumbermill sawyer, died Thursday at Jacques Spur near Lapwai when the grain truck he was driving overturned. He was 61.

He was born July 16, 1932, at Lewiston to Fred and Josephine Roith Kern.

He attended Kitral School at Craigmont and finished his schooling through the eighth grade at Culdesac.

He married Elisabeth Jovanovic at Lewiston Jan. 5, 1954.

He worked as a ratchet setter and sawyer at Lorenz Lumber at Spalding until 1958, then worked as a sawyer for Oscar Carpenter in Lewiston Orchards.

In 1965, he returned to Spalding and continued working at the mill after Potlatch Forest Inc. (now Potlatch Corp.) took over the operation. He retired from Potlatch in 1992 and had done farm work for his neighbors since.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and farming and was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish at Lapwai, the Moose Lodge and the Knights of Columbus.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, also at Sacred Heart. The Rev. Bob Waldman will be the celebrant.

Burial will be at Lewiston's Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens.

Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home at Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
