Mrs. Wilma Mae Combs Vass, 88, of 217 Kenmore Road, Hillsville, VA, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at Trinity Mission of Hillsville.

She was born September 18, 1922, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Auvil and Emaline Robinson Combs.

She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Swanson Early Vass of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Earlene and Roland Richardson of Woodlawn, VA, and Gladys Gaye and Charlie Sumner of Fancy Gap, VA;
three sons and two daughters-in-law, Russell and Betty Vass of Mount Airy, Barney and Tammy Vass of Hillsville, VA, and Dennis Vass of Hillsville, VA;
eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Ester Hill of Hillsville, VA.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vass was preceded in death by five sisters, Elsie Hill, Ruth Rippey, Mildred Hill, Irene Bowman, and Mamie Sue Dalton; and two brothers, Arnold Combs and Carlos Combs.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 13, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. David Sechrist and the Rev. Allan Vass officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mount Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Mount Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Earlene Richardson, 5127 Joy Ranch Road, Woodlawn, VA 24381.
