Former Mayor of Archer City, Texas, Jack Mueller, age 88, passed away March 1, 2014 at his residence.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, located at 1302 West Oak in Olney, with Rev. Sean Reeves officiating. Interment will follow in the Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home.
Jack was born July 16, 1925 in Humboldt, Kansas to Henry Robert Mueller and Dora Amanda Youse Mueller. In 1943, he graduated from Humboldt High School.
Jack was inducted into the Army on September 4, 1943 and proudly served his country at Ft. Leavenworth KS, the European Theater of Operations, the Pacific Theater of Operations and served in Okinawa. He received the Expert Infantry Marksman Rifle and the Purple Heart for his services in the Army and was Quarter Master. He was honorably discharge April 1946.
He and Patty Joan Hoffmeir were married December 18, 1953 in Odessa, Texas.
Jack moved to Archer City in 1964. Jack was appointed as Mayor of Archer City on July 10, 1975 to fulfill the unexpired term of A.J. Morris. He was elected as Mayor on April 3, 1976 and served until April 5, 1986. He and the City Council were instrumental in building the football field, and also the water line from Kickapoo to Archer City. He was voted Citizen of the Year in 1968 by the Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Archer City School Board from April 1969 to April 1975, and was president in 1974-1975. Jack was active in the American Legion Post 198 and was instrumental in getting the old jail purchased to turn into the museum. He also was a member of the Archer City Country Club. Jack was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Olney where he was an Elder.
Jack loved to hunt quail and dove, and coaching little league baseball in Archer City. He had a speaking role in "The Last Picture Show" and was in "Texasville." He was member of the Screen Actors Guild.
Jack was employed for Homa Oil & Gas in 1964. In 1973, he started Mueller Oil Company in Archer County. In 1990, Jack began working for Palo Petroleum owned by Jim Graham and was currently employed as Manager of Field Operations. He was a member of Independent Petroleum Assoc. of America, and Society of Petroleum Engineers of AIME.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Mueller of Archer City; three sons, Mike Mueller of Archer City, Mark Mueller and wife, Mary of Archer City, and Jack Mueller and wife, Cathy of Lakeside City; one sister, Irma Parker of Sapulpa, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Luella Heisler of Topeka, Kansas, and Olive Taylor and husband, Albert of Independence, Kansas; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend and boss, Jim Graham.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Nolan and Bob Mueller.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Bryce Mueller, Dustin Mueller, Mason Mueller, Nicholas Mueller, Aaron Fontenot and his nephew, Wayne Parker. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jim Black, Kenneth Culwell, Larry Culwell, Pat Martin, and Steve Moore.
