The death of Mr. Raymond "Ray" Alois Tameling of Medicine Hat, AB, (and formerly of the Humboldt district, SK), occurred at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, Medicine Hat, on Sunday, October 13, 2013. He was 69 years of age.

Ray, the second youngest of six boys, was born on August 13, 1944, to Joseph Sr. and Emma (nee Schmedes) Tameling at home on the family farm in the Muenster district. He grew up there and attended St. Francis Rural School in the area. Ray worked for his brother on the home place and later purchased his own farm east of Humboldt. Eventually, he moved from there due to the expansion of the lagoon. In 1976, Ray purchased 36-36-23 W2nd in the R.M. of Wolverine. The one-and-a-half storey house on the property was built in 1946, and renovations were done in 1977.

On November 11, 1978, Ray married Barbara Froess. They ran a mixed-farm operation until 1987. At that time, the land was rented out to his brother Al. The land was then sold to his nephews in March 2005. Ray worked at various places in Humboldt, including CIM, Smitty's, the Bella Vista, Mar-shall Janitorial, and the Sincere Restaurant, and he also cut grass for the R.M. of Wolverine. To celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary, Ray and Barb went on a music bus tour to the United States, which they both enjoyed and were looking forward to doing again.

After selling the farm, Ray and Barb moved to Bow Island, AB, and worked side-by-side in a restaurant. In August 2006, due to Ray's health problems, they relocated to Medicine Hat to be closer to the doctors. Ray worked at Perkins Restaurant from May 2010 until August 2011 when he retired. Much of his time was then spent going to his doctor appointments and spending time with his wife. He and Barb tried to attend as many family events and to visit friends as much as they could.

Ray is survived by his wife of nearly 35 years, Barb (nee Froess) of Medicine Hat, AB; five brothers: Ed (Leola), Bill (Renee), Joe (Marj), Al (Marianne), and Otto; and by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and in-laws of the Froess family.

He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Tameling Sr. (February 17, 1988); mother, Emma (nee Schmedes) Tameling (February 8, 2002); and by one sister-in-law, Lillian Tameling. Ray was cremated in Medicine Hat on October 15, 2013.

The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Gregory Roth. Others taking part were: Justin Carroll, crossbearer; Keenan Tameling, urnbearer; Loretta Wiebe and Ed Tameling, scripture readers; Ed Tameling, intentions; and Al and Marianne Tameling, giftbearers. Music ministry was provided by the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir.

Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Chronic Kidney Disease Unit at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital or Prostate Cancer.
