British Subject. Daughter of American merchant John Delaware Lewis, who carried on business in Russia. Fanny's sister was Mary Soffrona who married Rev Thomas Pruen, a rector in Mountsorrel, Leicestershire, England. The mother of the two sisters is currently unknown. John Delaware Lewis married again in 1824 to Emma Clewlow and they had two children, a son also called John Delaware Lewis, who became a member of parliament in England for Devenport in 1868. The second child was a daughter born in 1829. Within days of her birth, mother Emma died, and the fate of the child, Amy Eliza, is currently unknown . The Soffrona sisters are mentioned in John Delaware Lewis's will (copy available from National Archive) and he settled property on them, but the main estate passed to his son.
