Mrs. Near, age 82, passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 in Ludington. She was born October 5, 1930 in Hart to Peter and Rosa (Budde) Hale. Rose moved to New Era upon her marriage to Vincent "Bud" Near on December 29, 1950. He passed away on June 25, 1995. Mrs. Near was active as a 4H leader, and American Red Cross Blood Drive Coordinator. She enjoyed snowmobiling, sewing, gardening, bicycling and walking her dog. She is survived by her children, Scott (Birgit) Near, Sandy (Rod) Schultz, Marilyn Pawlowski and Joyce (Denny) Moehlman; grandchildren, Patrick Pawlowski, Matthew (Sarah) Pawlowski, Peter (Diana) Pawlowski, Angela Schultz, Michael Schultz, Carina Nielsen and Clayton Near; great-granddaughter, Coraline Talon; and her sister, Ida VanderZanden. Besides her parents and her husband, Rose was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard and Bob Hale; and sister, Sue Lombard. Visitation is Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 6th, 11 am at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby. Interment: Mennonite Cemetery.
