Loma Fay Billmeyer Kerkenbush, of Winona passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, after a brief illness.

Loma was born Nov. 21, 1926, in Sand Springs, Iowa, to Henry J. and Catherine L. (Drees) Billmeyer. At the age of 1 1/2, the family moved to Greeley, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. She was a graduate of Bayless College in Dubuque, Iowa.

On Sept. 7, 1948, she married Irvin "Kerk" Kerkenbush, at St. Joseph's Church in Greeley. They moved to Winona as Kerk worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. As Kerk was promoted, they lived in Guttenberg, Iowa, Red Wing, Minn., and at Lock & Dam 5 in Minnesota City before moving to Winona in 1976. Kerk preceded her in death Jan. 14, 2010.

Loma was employed at Whittaker Marine, North American Rockwell International and Winona Industries. She retired in 1987.

She was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Winona Court 191, and she has enjoyed being part of the Lee-Ann Estate Sales group.

She is survived by her son; daughters.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and a great-granddaughter expected in June; sister; nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.

Loma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, John; and sister-in-law, Marie Billmeyer.

In her later years, Loma was comforted by her toy poodle, Chelsea, who was her loyal companion. She will always be remembered for her love of family, great family meals, and her delicious pies.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. The Rev. Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.

Loma will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 3, at Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.

Pallbearers will be Loma's grandsons and a nephew.

Loma's family also would like to thank Winona Area Hospice for their care and support.
