Dr. Bernard O. Bendixen, a retired medical specialist, succumbed in his home at Route 4, Streator, at 3:55 a.m., today, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the Immaculate Conception Church. There will be no visitation. The Elias Funeral Home is in charge of final arrangements.
Dr. Bendixen was born on March 30, 1892 in Wautoma, Wisconsin, a son of Bernard and Bertha (Larsen) Bendixen. He married Olive Strupp, who survives him.
Dr. Bendixen received his degree from Marquette University, interned at Milwaukee County hospital, and after serving in the Armed Forces in World War I, came to Streator, where he practiced medicine in this specialized field of eye, ear, nose, and throat, until his retirement in 1967.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church; local, county, state, and national medical societies; Knights of Columbus; charter member of the Kiwanis Club; a 50-year member of Streator Country Club; and a member of Leslie G. Woods Post American Legion.
Surviving besides his widow are two sons: Bernard Odin Bendixen Jr. of Winneconne, Wisconsin and Donald L. Bendixen of El Cajon, California; one granddaughter; one sister: Mrs. Lloyd Morris of Mendota; two brothers: C. L. Bendixen of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Oliver Bendixen of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
