Emanuel M. Smith was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon in the Nevada cemetery, after services at the Methodist church in this city by Rev. J. B. Nicholson of Goldfield, a former pastor. Emanuel was a son of Jared and Adeline Smith born near Losantville, Indiana, May 25, 1861. He passed away at the hospital in Iowa City Friday, Dec. 5 at the age of 63 years, 6 months and 10 days.

Emanuel's early life was spent in Indiana. In 1884 he came with his parents to Story county, Iowa which has since been his home with the exception of a few years when he lived in Humboldt county. In 1921 he moved to Ames which was his home at the time of his death.

He was united in marriage to Mary E. Cook September 4, 1889. To this union eight children were born, six of whom with the wife survive. They are Mrs. Joe Engstrom, Mrs. Omer Davis and Russell W. Smith all of Renwick, Ia., Harlan, Earl and Glen of Ames. Two children died in infancy, eight grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Joe Brooks of this city also survives.

He united with the Baptist church at Renwick in 1914 and was also a member of the Modern Woodman lodge.

Mr. Smith has been a patient sufferer for the past four years, much of his time being spent in the hospital. Death was caused from pernicious anemia and complications.

He was a most kind and affectionate husband and father, the comforts of his home and family always being his foremost thought. Besides his family and relatives he leaves a host of friends who mourn his departure.
