78, of McKeesport, died Monday, March 23, 2009 at his residence. He was born April 9, 1930 in McKeesport, a son of the late Stefan J. and Victoria Stepansky Rybar. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Stephen (Snitz), Teddy, and Ray, and a sister, Josephine Galla. He is a US Army Veteran of the Korean War (82nd Airborne Division), a Graduate of the PA State Police Academy in Hershey, PA and the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. After retiring as the Captain of Detectives of the McKeesport Police Department where he was also a certified police firearms instructor, he was the Director of Security at McKeesport Hospital. Currently he is a board member of the McKeesport Redevelopment Authority, Chairman of the Allegheny County F.O.P. Lodge #91, President of the PA Association of Police Retirees, lifetime 3rd degree member of the McKeesport Knights of Columbus #955 and 4th degree member of the Stephen P. Barry Assembly #940, Chairman of 3rd Class Cities of PA, lifetime member of the Western PA Chiefs Association, Allegheny County Chiefs Association, Past Trustee and President of the 11th Ward Club, and Past Trustee of the National F.O.P.. John was a member of the Polish National Alliance #352, Amvets, Duquesne V.F.W. #188, McKeesport American Legion Post #361, and St. Mary Czestochowa Parish, McKeesport. He is survived by his wife: Alice J. Michalek Rybar; sons: Gregory (Karen) Rybar of White Oak; Robert Rybar of McKeesport; daughter: Vicki (Kevin) Gaska of North Huntingdon; seven grandchildren: Jennifer and Jessica Rybar; Heather and Nicole Rybar; Amy, Amber, and Autumn Gaska; sisters: Barbara (Babe) Dansak of McKeesport; Mary Bezick of North Huntingdon; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Friends will be received on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the JAYCOX-JAWORSKI FUNERAL HOME, INC. 2703 O'Neil Boulevard, McKeesport, PA 15132. A Blessing Service will begin in the chapel of the funeral home on Friday, March 27,2009 at 10:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Mary Czestochowa Church with Fr. Edward S. Litavec as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Polish Cemetery in White Oak. www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com.
