27 July 1921 - 28 March 2014

Irene Smith Persful passed from this life on Friday, the 28th of March 2014 at the age of 92. She was born in Galatia, Kansas on the 27th of July 1921 the youngest of 6 children born to Conrad and Amelia Baker. Upon graduating from Great Bend High School in 1938 Irene spent time in Los Angeles, California with her sister and family. Irene met Tromer Smith prior to World War II and the two married on October 22, 1942 in New London, Connecticut where Tromer was attending the Coast Guard Academy.

Tromer's career in the oil business found them moving around the world including 13 years in Venezuela, as well as 3 years in Paris, France, several years in Tulsa, Oklahoma and finally settling in Houston, Texas. Irene always loved traveling and made the most of these opportunities by visiting many of the countries in South America and Europe.

After Mr. Smith's death Irene married Oral Bob Persful in June of 1978.

Irene was known by friends and family as a gracious hostess, always well-dressed and having a wonderful sense of humor. Irene's passions included animals, chocolate and "being coordinated" in her clothing.

Irene devoted a lot of her time to her three children, participating in scouting events, and attending numerous school functions.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Tromer Smith, her second husband, Oral Bob Persful, her parents Conrad and Amelia Baker, sisters Esther Deines, Elsie Myers, Calista Nuss, Mildred Suellentrop and brother Clarence Baker.

She is survived by her children, Sandra Fischl, Sally Videan and Brian Smith and his wife Donna DiFiore; her grandchildren Eric Fischl, Adrienne Fischl and her husband John Williams, Tromer DiFiore-Smith and Lina DiFiore-Smith as well as two great-grandchildren Elena and Kate Williams.
