Carlyle, Clinton, IL Death Register - Virgil Gutzwiller, born Therwil, Baselland, Switzerland. Marble cutter. Died 10 Aug 1885 at Carlyle, Clinton, NE, 4 PM. 43 yrs. Son: Emil Virgil Gutzwiller born in Basel, Switzerland & immigrated at age 4 yrs. Note that census records of his Mother, Elise Gutzwiller Gassman say she immigrated in 1882. Date of immigration would be 1885 based on obituary of son, Emil V. Gutzwiller, which says the family settled first in Illinois & his Father died there. Newspaper indicates it was Emil's Mother and Step-father that moved to Columbus and opened the bakery about 1889.
