Roy Adams slipped peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 16, 2014. He was born on July 3, 1923 in South Pittsburg, TN to Roy Brewer Hodgkin and Mary Louise Burks. He married Virginia Spencer on March 28, 1943 in Memphis, TN and they shared a strong and loving relationship for over 67 years until her death in 2010. Calling him Daddy and Dad are Ruthe Wilkerson (late husband Jake) of Issaquah, WA; Peggy Grant (husband Don) of Apple Valley, CA; Rebecca Adams of Apple Valley, CA; Spencer Adams (wife Angela) of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Brian Adams (wife Helen) of Big Bear City, CA; and Eugene Harbin, 'adopted son', of Los Angeles. He was Grampa and Papa to Heidi & Duane Erickson of Chico, CA; Robert & Theresa Wittenberg of Renton, WA; Alexa Grant of New York; Sarah Adams of Oregon; Spencer Adams of Big Bear City; and, Emily and Layla Adams of Puerto Vallarta. Calling him Papa-Great are Mallory, Zack, and Hailey Erickson of Chico, CA; and Rachel, Jacob, and Reeve Wittenberg of Renton, WA. He was also loved by his brother and sisters and many nieces and nephews from California to Tennessee. Roy graduated in 1941 from Southside High School in Memphis, TN and joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 serving on the USS Tangiers in the Pacific as a Radioman Second Class until his discharge in 1945. Roy and Virginia moved to San Jose, CA in 1946 and were active members of First Baptist Church for over 30 years. While at First Baptist Church, he played the guitar and sang with the "Royal Bards" a group of local returnees from World War II who spread the gospel singing in churches, prisons, and youth camps throughout California. Roy was also instrumental in founding the Berryessa Little League in San Jose, California in the early 1960's. After retiring from the City of San Jose as a police/fire dispatcher, he and Virginia enjoyed many years of traveling in their RV. They settled in Myrtle Creek, OR in 1980. While in Oregon, he started Myrtle Creek Music Co. with his son-in-law Donald and was instrumental in the development and construction of the Escapees (SKP) Park in Sutherlin, OR until 1999. Roy was a faithful and loved member of Sonlife Community Church in Apple Valley for over 12 years where he and Virginia hosted and attended a weekly Cell Group Bible Study. Family and friends gathered for a memorial service on May 24, 2014 at Sonlife Community Church in Apple Valley to remember and celebrate his life. A private family burial, with military honors, was held at Sunset Hills Memorial Park on May 28, 2014. The family is grateful for the prayers and support of those who loved and cared for him.
