Eugene "Gene" Dreiling passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Gove County Long Term Care facility in Quinter, KS. He was born on November 1, 1926 in Collyer to Peter & Clara (Bollig) Dreiling.

On August 30, 1947 he was united in marriage to Mary Catherine Baker. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage together. They shared their lives with four children, five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Gene was a dedicated employee of the Union Pacific Railroad. After retiring from the railroad he began working as a truck driver and spent many years transporting fuel for Service Oil Company.

He was an avid baseball fan and spent many years playing for the Grinnell Town Team. Later in life during baseball season, you could find him cheering on his beloved New York Yankees. Gene also enjoyed golfing and often times you could find him getting a round in at the Cow Paddy Golf Course in Grinnell.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, son Robert, four brothers: Richard, Tom, Ben, and Fr. Augustine, and a sister Lorene Schamberger.

He is survived by his daughters: Linda Dickman, Cheryl Stephens and Kathy Hartman; two brothers, Jim and Robert; two sisters, Sister Rose Beatrice and Rose Marie Hoerman; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Burial took place at the Grainfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made to benefit the Northwest Kansas Foundation for Hope, in care of the family. (The Oakley Graphic, Wed. Mar. 26, 2014.)
