Buried in Minden Cemetery.

After a long life of useful service filled with deeds of kindness, Thomas T. Lowe, aged eighty-six, honored and highly esteemed citizen, passed away at his home on the Bellevue road, six miles northwest of Minden, at 6:10 o'clock Wednesday morning. He had been ill several seeks and owing to his advanced age, was unable to overcome the malady.

Funeral services were held at three-thirty o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the First Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. W.C. Childress. Interment was then made in the City Cemetery. A great number of relatives and friends attended the services.

Thomas Turpin Lowe was born in South Carolina April 3, 1838, and when eight years of age the family moved to Georgia and settled near Rome, and in 1860, when 22 years of age, he came to Claiborne parish and settled where is now the town of Haynesville.

In 1861 Mr. Lowe enlisted in the Confederate army as a member of the 12th Louisiana regiment and served until the end of the war. He soldiered in the Army of the West and was wounded at the battle of Franklin, Tenn. The casualties sustained by both armies in this battle were the severest of any, considering the numbers engaged, of any battle of the civil war.

Mr. Lowe was twice married. His last wife, who survives him, was Mrs. Francis Hawkins, Nee Curry, mother of Jim Tom Hawkins, who died in 1918. His first marriage was to Miss Nancy Bond in Claiborne parish in 1870. Of this ???? three sons were born, two of whom, W.M. and O.D. Lowe, survive. The other son, A.L., died when three years old. By his second marriage six children were born, five sons and one daughter, all living. They are: P.F., J.W., F.L., J.T., and E.H. Lowe of Minden, and Mrs. Roy Hayes of Waldo, Ark. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. J.W. Camp of Claiborne parish, and three half-brothers, Jesse and George of Haynesville, and A.A. Lowe of Pine Bluff, Ark., and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. The Eldest son W. Matt Lowe, was formerly mayor of Minden.

Mr. Lowe was a devout member of the Methodist church for seventy-two years and took an active part in all activities of the church. At the time of his death he was a member of Bethel M.E. church near his home. He was a leader in the several communities in which he resided during his long life and was concerned in its spiritual and material wellness. He was a member of the police jury from the Fourth Ward of Claiborne parish for a period of sixteen hears, and until his removal from the ward. He was a ??ther-in-law of the late W.M. ??? Phillips, who died a few ??? age.
