He was born in Meinberg, Lippe-Detmold, Germany, son of Johann "Friedrich" Tempel & Anne "Catherine" Topps. He was baptized on 15 February 1807 in the Evangelisch-Reformierte Kirche, Meinberg, Lippe, Germany.

He married Dorothea 'Dora' Tappe on 25 October 1840 in the Evangelisch-Reformierte Kirche, Meinberg, Lippe, Germany.

Their home was Nr. 81, Meinberg.

Conrad Tempel (45), his wife, Dorothea Tempel (35) and children, August Tempel (10), Amalie Tempel (8), Friedrich Tempel (4) & Wilhelm Tempel (9 months) arrived at the Castle Garden Immigration Station, New York on York 27 June 1852, aboard the bark "Henriette". The family was from Meinberg, Germany. They left from the Port of Bremen, Germany and were heading for Fryburg [Freeport], Illinois. Conrad paid for the tickets himself. They had 4 pieces of luggage. According to the manifest, 2 in their family died on the passage. - Friedrich Tempel (4) & Wilhelm Tempel (9 months) ?? - they are not found in the 1860 census.

Coonrad Temple (53 Lipa) appears in the 1860 United States Federal Census (14 July 1860) for Freeport (Ward 2), Stephenson County, Illinois (page 143, family 1034) along with his wife, Dorothy Temple (43 Lipa) and children, August Temple (18 Lipa, Cabinet Maker), Mary Temple (15 Lipa) and Dina Temple (7 Illinois). Conrad was a laborer with real estate valued at $1500 and a personal estate of $200.

Conrad Temple (65 Prussia) and his wife, Dora Temple (55 Prussia, housekeeper) are enumerated in the 1870 United States Federal Census (18 June 1870) for Silver Creek, Stephenson County, Illinois (page 31, family 216). Conrad was a laborer with real estate valued at $500 and a personal estate of $300.

Conrad Temple (78 Lippe-Detmold) and Dora Temple (63 Lippe-Detmold, keeping house) are found in the 1880 United States Federal Census (18 June 1880) for Freeport (3rd Ward), Stephenson County, Illinois (page 131C, family 603).
