Wilbur Henry (Bill) Amen, 89, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2014. His loving wife of 67 years and grandchildren were at his bedside. He was born on December 5, 1924 in Lincoln at the home of his parents, Conrad J. and Anna Marie (Ostermiller) Amen. He was baptized, confirmed, and married at Ebenezer Congregational Church, where his parents were founding members and where he would eventually serve as Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent, Choir member and Church Board President. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942.

Bill was inducted into the U.S. Army in May 1943 at Ft. Crook, Neb., He served in the Pacific Theater (New Guinea-Southern Philippines) and received the Asiatic Pacific Service medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star, and the Sharpshooter Medal--M'03 Rifle. He returned from Leyte with the 540th Amtrack Battalion in December 1945, and was honorably discharged on January 12, 1946, with the rank of Tech Sergeant. Bill returned to Lincoln and was united in marriage to Elsa Marie Weber on March 29, 1947. After 40 years of service, Bill retired from Uniservice, Inc. in 1998.

Bill is survived by his wife, Elsa; sons, Ronald J. (Gretchen) Amen of Redmond, Wash., and Thomas W. (Nadean) Amen, Lincoln; grandchildren, Anna K. Amen, Redmond, Wash., Eric T. Amen, Seattle, Wash., Timothy J. Amen and Brett T. Amen, Lincoln; brothers and sisters-in law, John J. (Ruby) Weber, Norma Hansen, Donald W. Weber, and Joan Worster, all of Lincoln; many nieces, nephews, and loyal friends. Preceded in death by parents, brothers, Conrad James (Jim) Amen, Robert J. Amen, and sister, Frances D. Amen.

Current and former fraternal/service organizations, American Legion Post No. 3, VFW Post No. 131, B.P.O.E. Elks, American Historical Society of Germans from Russian, and Cornhusker Council Boy Scouts of America -- Life Scout, Scoutmaster of Troop 18, Lincoln (10 years).

Visitation with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A St. Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, Ebenezer Congregational Church, 801 B Street, Lincoln. Pastor Franklin Krause officiating. Interment: Wyuka Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials to church and Tabitha Hospice.
