Loving mother of Stewart Schmalbach, Jr. (Shelley), and Susan Prescott Schmalbach. Stepmother of Katherine Curtis Rigler, Helen Curtis Knepper, John A. Curtis, Jr., Joanne Curtis Evarts; sister of Edmund L. Jones, Jr. Bettina is also survived by nine step-grandchildren and sixteen step-great-grandchildren.
