Albert Bernard Kulzer, 83, of Greenwald died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.

Mass of Christian will be Friday, July 8, 2005 at 11 am at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 612 of Lake Henry.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 9 pm and Friday from 8 to 10:30 am at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. American Legion Post 612 will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. and Catholic Order of Foresters and Knights of Columbus at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Melrose.

Albert Kulzer was born on March 13, 1922 in Greenwald, Minnesota to Conrad and Rose (Schoenberg) Kulzer. He was united in marriage to Regina C. "Jean" Kulzer on July 30, 1951 in Elrosa, Minnesota. They farmed in Greenwald until retiring in 1974. Albert enjoyed reading and playing with kids. He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Greenwald; American Legion Post 612, Lake Henry; Knights of Columbus Council 1633, Melrose; Catholic Order of Foresters, Elrosa and St. Michael's Society, Greenwald.

Survivors include his wife, Regina "Jean" Kulzer of Greenwald; sisters, Marie Eveslage of Dearborn, MI and Frances Krist of Westland, MI. There are no children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Melvin, Ervin, Alcuin and Herbert Kulzer.

Casket bearers will be Albert's nephews. Cross bearer will be Kate McScherry and scripture bearer will be Karen Deadrick. Lector will be Arlene Kulzer. Honorary bearers will be St. Michael's Society.

Albert farmed land originally homesteaded by his immigrant grandfather John Adam Kulzer. The Kulzer farm was designated a "Century Farm" in 1965. Withstanding updates, Albert and Jean lived in the Kulzer farm home where his dad and siblings grew up. On the farm, into the 1990's, stood an old rough cut log barn built by John Adam Kulzer 130 years previous.

Albert was a US Army veteran and had been mayor of Greenwald.
