2nd Great-grandfather is John George Heidt, I, Salzburger who came to Georgia Colony in 1749. Great-grandfather is Christian Israel Heidt, Sr., who fought in the Revolutionary War.

Served in Confederate Army. Fought in Civil War, 7th Regiment, GA Cavalry, and Company D, 22nd Battalion, GA Heavy Artillery. Honorably discharged May 1, 1865. Some years later he caught a cattle drive from around Savanah and came to Orange Co. with a Mr. Summerlin. He then worked as a cattle inspector. He died sitting at the dinner table at his son, Thomas Eugene Heidt's, table.

Sarah Elizabeth (Powell) was Solomon's second wife. His first wife was Amy Elizabeth (Zipperer). The story goes that he came back from the Civil War and found Amy to be pregnant (or already having had a child named Horace C. Heidt). He didn't believe the child was his, so he divorced her and moved to Florida. In June of 2010 a Horace C. Bowden was found on the 1900 Census in Alaska, the 1910 Census in Arizona, and the 1920 Census in California. Born in 1866, this is the only Horace C. any last name born within several years of 1866. So apparently Solomon Robert Heidt was correct. The child was not his, and Amy Elizabeth (Zipperer) cheated on him while he was fighting in the war. Unsure whether Bowden is the name of the real father, or simply a step-father whom Amy Elizabeth (Zipperer) remarried and then gave the name to the boy.

We believe that Solomon Robert Heidt was actually born December 20, 1842, not 1838, and that the tombstone is incorrect. Because his parents, Solomon Heidt and Caroline M. (Bowman) Heidt, marriage certificate clearly shows they were married on March 18, 1841. And the 1900 Census listing the family clearly shows him as being born in December 1842, and that he was 57 years old, with the occupation of farmer. Also, Solomon Robert Heidt's Civil War Veteran Pension Application, where he writes his age, he started to write 66 or 67, and then wrote 70 over it, and 70 was the minimum age to qualify for the pension. The birth date is then written December 20, 1838, but as he initially wrote his age as 66 or 67, and then wrote 70 over that to qualify to get the pension, we believe he was actually born December 20, 1842, a year after his brother John Israel Heidt. Taking the Veteran's Pension Application into consideration, it makes perfect sense why his tombstone would read 1838 and not 1842, since his wife Sarah would not continue to receive the pension if it was found that he was born in 1842 and not 1838.
