David Chapel, 91, of Cedar Rapids, passed away May 11, 2013 following an extended illness. Funeral service will be 3:00 pm Tuesday May 14, 2013 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Reverend Lloyd Brockmeyer presiding. Interment will be Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Visitation is 4:00-6:00 pm Monday 5-13-2013 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.David was born April 2, 1922 in Cedar Rapids to Orrie James and Lois C. (Springer) Chapel. He served in the US Marine Corps in the South Pacific during WWII from 1942-1944. David married Leota Gardner on November 20, 1944 and they resided in Cedar Rapids. He worked for 44 years at LeFebure Corporation.David is survived by his son Randy (Patti) Chapel; two grandchildren Brett Chapel and Stephanie (Brian) Helle; two great-grandchildren Aidan and Carson Helle; sister Nancy (Lowell) Waybill; and good friend Theresa Chapel.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and son Jeffrey Chapel; four brothers Orrie, Jr, Darrell (in infancy), Louis, and Gerald; and two sisters Dawn and Linda. David was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan, enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. He enjoyed helping others, especially his family and neighbors.Friends are encouraged to give memorial donations to Hospice of Mercy, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family would like to extend a special thanks to David's neighbors for their help and support. All attending the funeral service will be welcome to stay for a reception following the graveside committal services.
