Gladys Saathoff, 85, of Watertown passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at her residence.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 5, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Watertown with Reverend Keith Petersen. Ellen Heisner will be the organist, and Mike Ratigan, grandson, will be the soloist.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 1-4:00 p.m. at Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Estelline.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Travis Peterson, Dan Knox, Mike Ratigan, Ryan Peterson, Jeff Ratigan, Brad Saathoff and Eric Saathoff.

Honorary Pallbearers will be granddaughters, Teresa Knox, Jennifer Brenner, Lara Steen and Sara Saathoff.

Gladys Charlotte Saathoff, the daughter of Ernest and Lena (Petershagen) Roehs, was born September 15, 1928 in Estelline, South Dakota. She attended country school near Estelline and then graduated from Estelline High School in 1948. After graduation she helped her parents on the farm.

On July 1, 1949 Gladys married William H. Saathoff at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Estelline. They farmed in the Estelline Castlewood area. Gladys was a 4-H Leader for nine years; she was employed at Minnesota Egg Company for twenty years; and after that she was a housekeeper. The couple retired from farming in 1978 and moved to Watertown. William passed away February 23, 1987.

She enjoyed family gatherings, quilting, and growing African Violets.

Gladys is survived by her children, Karen Ratigan of Hayti, Gary (Monica) Saathoff of Watertown, Diane (Ron) Peterson of Watertown, Sharon (Martin) Heck of Bearsley, MN, Dean (Marge) Saathoff of Mason City, IA and Peggy (John) Steen of Brookings; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; sister, Doris Reichling; and 2 brothers, Dick Bolte and Louis Roehs.
