Robert Jennings Varney, 84, of Topeka, died on Friday, May 23, 2014 at a Topeka hospital.

Bob was born on July 10, 1929 in Ragland, West Virginia to James A. and Tessie Mae Varney, who preceded him in death.

In 1952, he was married to his beloved Beverly Ann Weber and together they raised their 3 very active sons, William E. Varney (Tena) of Tecumseh, KS; Greg Varney (Debbie) of Topeka and Steve Varney of Highlandville, MO.

Bob is survived by his wife and children, 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

After serving our country in the Navy, Bob attended Indiana University for 2 years. He retired from DuPont as a chemist Lab technician in Topeka, KS. He and Bev retired to Branson, MO where he lived on Pointe Royale Golf Course, where he is famous for having two holes in one.

Bob and Bev returned to Topeka several years ago. Bob was always active in various churches, and was a member of Light of the World Christian Center. Bob was very involved with his sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an active Scout Master for the Boy Scouts and coached several little league baseball teams.

Visitation will be from noon – 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2014 with a service following at 1:00 p.m. at the Mount Hope Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St., Topeka. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert's memory may be made to Paralyzed Veterans Association, Mid America Chapter, 6108 NW 63rd St., Suite A., Oklahoma City, OK 73132 or to Light of the World Christian Center, 3301 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka KS 66614.
