Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Tuesday, January 3, 1933, page 1:
  Mrs. Charlotte Grode, wife of Peter Grode of this city, died at her home at 515 Orchard street Sunday morning at 4:30 o'clock, following a four years' ailment due to heart disease. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Straube Funeral Home at 1:30 o'clock, thence to the First Christian Church at 2, Rev. J.H. Phelps, pastor, in charge. Interment will be made at Woodlawn Cemetery.
  Mrs. Grode was born at St. Charles, Mo., on June 19, 1876. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Wiedner, both preceded her in death. In March, 1895, she was united in marriage with Cyrus Haas at St. Louis. They were divorced in 1904 and she remarried in 1906, to Peter Grode. She has lived here since the second marriage. Mrs. Grode was a member of the Christian Church and the Pocahontas lodge here.
  Three children by the first marriage survive. They are Mrs. Ethel Marie Hooker, St. Louis, Mrs. Louis Kershaw, Edwardsville and Mrs. T.C. Vieth, also of this city. A step-son, Timothy Grode, Edwardsville, two sisters, Mrs. William Culbertson, Canada, and Mrs. J.C. Culbertson, Ft. Madison, Ia.; two brothers, Frank and William Wiedner, St. Louis and five grandchildren also survive.
