Molly Rasmusan

February 12, 1918 ~ April 30, 2014

Molly Rasmusan, 96, of Quincy, WA, went to heaven on April 30, 2014. She was born February 12, 1918, in Culbertson, MT to Peter and Mary Katherine "Katie" Damm. She attended school at the Damm School No. 2, and after the sixth grade, she started working as a live-in housekeeper and did field work in the area where she met her future husband. Molly married Charles W. Rasmusan on July 3, 1938. They started their family in Montana, then moved to Washington in 1939. They raised five children and helped raise two of their grandsons. She worked many years in the Del Monte cannery in Toppenish, WA, and later they traded their new house in Toppenish for an orchard on Cherry Hill, near Granger, WA. Molly worked in the orchards and raised the kids, while Chuck was working construction out of town. In 1959, they started a new farm at George, WA, through a veterans' drawing and the purchase of an additional 160 acres. They sold the orchard in 1964, and moved to the new farm. Molly and Chuck raised cattle and hay on the new farm, until their son, Richard, took over running it in 1989, when Molly moved to Quincy to a house she had purchased. She was a very hard worker her whole life and will be greatly missed by her family.

Molly leaves behind her five children, Betty (Evert) Kooy, James (Viola) Rasmusan, Robert Rasmusan, Richard (Mary) Rasmusan and Marilyn Cordova; sisters, Annie Buckholz and Bertha Kaufman; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rasmusan; four brothers; and four sisters.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Scharbach's Columbia Funeral Chapel in Quincy. Concluding Services and Interment will follow in the Quincy Valley Cemetery, Quincy, WA. Please leave a memory for the family or sign their online guestbook at www.scharbachs.com. Scharbach's Columbia Funeral Chapel, Quincy, is assisting the family with arrangements.
