John Christopher Richmannn was born Johann Christof Reichmann in Menden, Germany on January 6, 1853. At age 13, Chris traveled by boat to the United States because his doctor suggested that the salty water would be therapeutic for his eye defects. He arrived in New York at Ellis Island in 1866.

In 1893, Chris took advantage of the Homestead Act and obtained 163.56 acres of land near Wappapello where he built a cabin and maintained a farm and orchard.

On September 5, 1889, Chris married Sarah Howell Dill, a widower who had one daughter, Sofa Dill, from her deceased husband John Dill. Together, Chris and Sarah had 12 children: John Christopher, Berton Duffield, Ollie Christina, Oscar, Louise Ellen, Harry, Edward Robert, Florence, Claude Raymond, Clifford Frank, and Ernest Alvin. Sarah died on January 14, 1914, giving birth to their final son, Ernest Alvin Richmann.

Chris Richmann died at 10:30 AM on July 20, 1942 at his home.
