Leila M. Nichols, the daughter of Hazel Clara (Vibber) and Orlie Bronson, was born January 8, 1941 at Kensington, Kansas. She departed this life on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Tabitha Care Center in Crete, Nebraska.

Leila grew up in the Kensington area and received her formal education attending the Kensington schools. The family later moved south of Riverton, Nebraska where she met Richard L. Nichols. They were united in marriage on August 22, 1959 at Riverton. This union was blessed with two children, Randy and Terri. they continued to make their home at Riverton until 1964, when they moved to Grand Island. In 1973 they moved to Red Cloud to make their home.

She was employed for several with the Red Cloud schools as the librarian. She then began 25 years of service with John Deere Implement in Red Cloud where she worked until retiring in 2005. Leila fondly recalled these years and her many friendships with her John Deere family as richly rewarding and fulfilling. In her leisure time she enjoyed following sports. She was an avid Husker fan and in her younger years she volunteered her time as a Girl Scout Leader. Her personality was pervaded by her immeasurable sense of compassion and concern for others. Her family and friends were always the most important issues in her life.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Richard; daughter Terri; brothers Burton, Orlie and Merton Bronson;and sister Delores Gwennap.

Left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Mary Nichols of Roca, Nebraska; grandchildren Jody and Riley Nichols; sisters, Shirley Pickel and Merna Stanhope of Salina, Kansas and Velda Menard of Lincoln, Nebraska; a brother Darrel Bronson and wife Judy of Hastings, Nebraska;other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., June 14, 2014 at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud with Rev. Dan Benedict officiating. Interment will be at the Red Cloud Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday and Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to service time.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.
