Jean Marie Lyle Bliss, age 99, of Shawnee, KS passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 1996 at the Sharon Lane Nursing Home. Services will be held at the graveside, burial in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Bliss lived in the Kansas City area most of her life. She was born in Golden City, MO on Oct 16, 1896. She also lived in Marceline, Mo. where her father was editor of the Marceline News. Mrs. Bliss received an academic scholarship to Knox College in Galesburg, Il. She also attended Teachers' College in Kansas City and taught in a one room schoolhouse for one year. One of her favorite memories is boarding at a farm and riding a horse to school. For four years Mrs. Bliss played the flute with a sextet in Chautauqua with Red Path and Horner companies. She traveled in 48 states playing in many cities. She met her husband, Omar Bliss, while on the Chautauqua circuit. They were married on Jan 1, 1920 and were married 52 years. Mrs. Bliss was a talented musician playing the piano as well as the flute. She played in civic orchestras in Evanston, Il., Austin, Tx., and Johnson Co. Mrs. Bliss was a member of the Shawnee Mission Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Mayflower Society and the Phi Mu Mothers Club. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara B. and husband, Louis B. Seibel; four grandchildren, Louis O. Seibel and wife, Marie, Prairie Village; Carol J. Blythe and husband, Michael, Burke, Va., Mark E. Seibel and wife, Kelly, Miami, Fla., Charles A. Seibel and wife, Melinda, Oklahoma City, OK; 10 great grandchildren, Vanessa Bross and husband, Joseph, Marissa and Jana Seibel, Devin and Christopher Blythe, Charles C. Amanda, Christine, Andrew and Abigail Seibel; and a great great granddaughter, Hayley Louise Seibel.
