Gladys M. Lampe Lanphere, age 96 of Highland, IL, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL. She was born on Monday, July 16, 1917, in Alhambra, IL, the daughter of John C. and Margaret A. (nee Auer) Hitz. On Sunday, October 21, 2001, she married Dean L. Lanphere who survives. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL, Order of Eastern Star, Unity Chapter #608 – Marine, IL, (Past Worthy Matron in 1954); Past Matrons Club, Marine, IL. Born at Alhambra Township, IL; reared there on a farm. She worked at Moulton Bartley Shoe Factory for several years, later with her husband operated Lampe Bus Service from 1950 to 1967. She continued to work there as a substitute bus driver until retiring at age 80 in 1990. She spent winters in Florida since 1970 at Ft. Lauderdale. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafts and was an excellent cook. "Driving the school bus, knowing the children was her delight". Survivors include: Husband – Dean L.
