Marlene Anne, daughter of Henry and Viola (Stuhr) Otto, was born September 10, 1936 at Botna, Iowa. She attended rural school, Jefferson #2, followed by Manning High School graduating in 1955. Later that year on November 11, 1955, Marlene was united in marriage with Billie Hargens at Manning. Two daughters were born to this union. After four years in Manning they moved to Perry.

In 1978 Marlene moved to Des Moines where she continued her work with Safeway, Stores, Inc. After suffering some health issues, she changed to an office job with the company. Later she worked as a telemarketer. In 1991 Marlene was diagnosed with cancer and endured numerous surgeries and treatments. Following a car crash in 1995, Marlene made her home with her daughter Sonya and family. Joys in her life besides her grandchildren were crocheting, embroidery and reading.

Before her health deteriorated Marlene was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Mitchellville and later Pleasantville and a loyal volunteer with the American Cancer Society.

Due to declining health Marlene moved to the Pleasant Living Care Center in Pleasantville. She died there on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 5 days.

Preceding her in death are her parents; son in law Dave Sutter and brother Merlin Otto.

Marlene is survived by her daughters Bobbi Jo Anderson of Mitchellville and Sonya Sue Adreon (Addison Bacon) of Pleasantville; five grandchildren: Christian Jahn, Clark Jahn, Shandi Jo Waterbury, Zeb Adreon and Caleb Adreon; three great grandchildren Haylee, Aubree and Caelix; her children's father Billie Hargens of Perry; sister in law Phyllis Otto of Madrid; niece, nephew, other relatives and friends.
