Place of Death Greeley, CO

He was born to John Weimer and Anna Marie Trupp Weimer on May 16, 1918 in Paul, Idaho. He was the youngest of three Weimer children. John Jr., the oldest; Dollie, the only Weimer daughter, and Edward. Edward was only six months old when his father passed away Nov. 9, 1918 in Lamar, Colo. Shortly there-after Anna Marie and her three children returned to Sugar City, Idaho where she met and married the widower Lorens Kraus on May 26, 1919. Loren’s first wife had died giving birth to their only son, whom they named Edward Kraus.

Lorens and Anna Marie moved to the Lamar area to farm, so Ed spent a large portion of his childhood there. Also while in the Lamar area seven more children were born to this union. Walter Kraus, Bertha Kraus Price, Laurence Kraus, David Kraus, Jake Kraus, William Kraus and Emma Kraus Lebsack. His father, mother, step-father, siblings and step-siblings have all preceded him to eternal rest.

On Sept. 25, 1942 he entered Army Basic Training at Camp Roberts, Calif., and then more training at San Lois Obispo, CA, and finally Camp Rucker in Alabama for maneuver and artillery training. In 1944 he served in the European Theatre of WW11, where he was in charge of heavy-duty bazookas. After his duty in the war, he was honorably discharged Sept. 25, 1945.

On Dec. 29, 1946 he married Bertha Hergenreder of Greeley at St. Paul Congregational Church. The couple then moved to Idaho, where they farmed until 1949. While there, the couple had two sons, James and John Weimer.

They then moved back to Greeley. Ed worked for Union Delivery Service until 1951. Then moved to a farm 4 miles S. and a ½ mile E. of Kersey, CO., where they farmed for the next 32 years. He also was employed at the GW sugar factory in Greeley from 1969 – 1992.

He loved having his Grandchildren spend time with him on the farm. You could always find one or more tagging along with him as he worked the farm. They always had their irrigation boots near-by, just in case their help was needed. Helping Grandpa make sausage was great fun too! At meal-times you could always find one of his Grandkids sitting on his lap. When they would visit him at the sugar factory they all enjoyed their ride on the stand-up lift.

On Dec. 9, 1984 his dearly beloved wife Bertha suddenly passed away. He continued to farm alone and work the campaigns at the sugar factory four more years.

In 1988 he married Esther Baker; sold his farm equipment and moved to Greeley. He continued working the campaigns at the sugar factory until 2001 when he finally fully retired.

He loved going to the Conditioning Spa, woodworking, and was very active at the Evans Senior Center, where he was known as “the candy man.”
Was a long-time member of The First Congregational Church, but loved spending time with family and friends the most.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Weimer; two sons, James and wife Beverly Weimer of Evans, CO and John Weimer and partner Karen Garner of Kersey, CO; five grandchildren, Kevin and wife Cindy Weimer of Loveland, CO., Kimberly and husband Glenn Cecil of Galeton, CO., Steven Weimer of Las Vegas, NV., Michael Weimer of Greeley, and Thomas Weimer; four great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jordan Weimer of Loveland, CO and Casey and Sarah Cecil of Galeton.

Visitation 9-10a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 followed by funeral service at Adamson Chapel. Interment at Linn Grove Cemetery.
