Jeanne DeRuyscher, loving mother and wife, died 17 January 2014. Jeanne was born 25 September in Columbus, Nebraska to Walter and Lucille Kopetzky. She spent her youth in Nebraska attending Scotus High school. In 1975, she completed her Bachelors degree at the University of Nebraska, where she met her future husband Carl.

Jeanne and Carl married and traveled to West Germany for three years, while Carl was stationed there. They then traveled the world and around the United States for twenty years before establishing Kansas residence in Leavenworth. In 1994 Jeanne was recognized by the Commander of the Combined Arm Center with the Department of the Army Commander's Award for Public Service. She was a leader in various activities and prolific volunteer. She was involved in numerous educational activities teaching for Cameron University and substituting in all grades at the undergraduate level.

As a volunteer she supported Army wives, military museums, and local fund raising activities. She was instrumental in establishing successful Greenway Auctions, creating and leading numerous successful River Fests, along with creating eleven A Taste of Leavenworth fund raisers. In developing A Taste of Leavenworth she has lead development of a solid foundation for the Leavenworth Historical Museum Association. Her leadership and hard work were recognized with the honor of the Athena Award.

Jeanne raised three successful sons and contributed to the development of many other community youth. She is survived by her husband, three sons, their wives, and three grandchildren. Her mother, two sisters, their husbands, two brothers, their wives, and numerous nieces and nephews remain in Nebraska.

A funeral service will be held at noon, 24 January 2014, at Sacred Heart Church, Leavenworth, Kansas. A funeral dinner will follow. An inurnment will be at a later date.
