MILES — Shirley Doris Hass, age 90, was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker.

She died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Solon Nursing Care Center in Solon, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the First United Presbyterian Church, Miles, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in the Miles City Cemetery, Miles, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Miles Presbyterian Church or Solon Retirement Village Foundation.

Shirley was born in rural Clinton County, Iowa, on October 5, 1923, the daughter of Erwin and Ella Schoening. Shirley was a graduate of Miles High School, Class of 1941.

She married Chester Mierzwinski on May 14, 1944 in Clinton, Iowa. She later married Peter Hass on October 12, 1952 in Miles, Iowa. Peter passed away on October 7, 1997.

Shirley was a member of Miles Presbyterian Women, Clinton Rebekah Lodge #13, Spencer-Cook Post #677 of Miles, The American Legion Auxiliary of which she was the 2nd District President from 1969-1970, and The Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Grand Officer in 1975.

She will be missed but remembered by her children Andrea (William) Lovins of Coral Springs, Florida and Bettina Hass of Iowa City, Iowa; her grandchildren, William (Janine) Lovins III of Orlando, Florida, Svetlana Lovins of Coral Springs and Ryan Albaugh of Iowa City; three great-grandsons, Alexander and Nicholas Lovins of Orlando and Matthew Lovins of Coral Springs. She will also be missed my numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Ella, her brother, Lee Schoening, two sisters, Marjorie Jargo and Audrey Lyman, and a grandson, Jason Lovins.
