ELEANOR ZEHNDER, TIRELESS LUTHERAN CHURCH WORKER
Eleanor Zehnder raised eight of her own children and still found time to care for infants for the Lutheran Children's Aid Society and to do volunteer work for various agencies.
Mrs. Zehnder donated her time for the American Red Cross at the Lutheran Home in Westlake years ago, was a member and officer of the Lois Youth Guild of the Cleveland Lutheran High School and served more than 40 years in various offices of the Ladies Society of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakewood.
Mrs. Zehnder, 80, died Thursday of a heart attack at the Lutheran Home in Westlake. She was a longtime resident of Lakewood and Westlake.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Rupert; sons, Donald of Tavernier, Fla., Fredrick of Virginia Beach, Va., David of Bay Village, William of Alexandria, Va., Lawrence of Chattanooga, Tenn.; daughters, Rhoda Henry of Fall Brook, Calif., Elizabeth Puls and Susan Jirgens of Lakewood; sisters, Lydia Hunger and Irma Hille of Westlake, and Marie Willis of North Ridgeville; 25 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lakewood. The Zeis-McGreevey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
