Alma was born April 24, 1922, in Culbertson, Nebraska, to parents Peter and Katherine (Kindsfatter) Frick. The family made their home in Culbertson, where Alma graduated from Culbertson High School in 1940.
On August 21, 1943, Alma married Raymond A. Miller in Oberlin, Kansas. To this union five children were born.
Alma was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson as well as the VFW Auxiliary, the UMW and Jolly Janes Extension Club. She was a volunteer at the Hitchcock County Food Pantry, a UMYF sponsor, a Red Cross volunteer and also served as a Girl Scout Leader. She began working in the infant nursery at St. Catherine's Hospital when several years of hail damage to the family's farm crops forced her to work outside the home. She became the head cook for the Culbertson Schools after St. Catherine's closed.
Alma was very artistic, creating oil paintings, stain glass designs, ceramics and needle work. She also enjoyed playing card games and playing the piano for special occasions.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Miller of Culbertson; and eight brothers, Peter, Ruben, Edward, Harry, Jake, Elmer, and two infants.
Alma is survived by her son Leland (Barb) Miller of Culbertson; daughters Ramona (Jerry) Kotschwar of Culbertson, Kasey (Mike) Elgert of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jo Bunstock of Lincoln, and Deb Gilliland of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Ruth Hesseltine of Clackamas, Oregon; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with the Rev. John Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Culbertson Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are designated to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 502 Colorado Street, Culbertson, Nebraska 69024.
