Tressa Whitmer, 93, Los Osos, Calif., died Aug. 16, 1997. Services will be held at September 15 at Los Osos Memorial Park, with burial beside her husband, Oliver.

Tressa was born June 29, 1904, in Churchtown, to Frank and Amelia (Christian) Schmeling. She married Oliver Whitmer on Sept. 15, 1923, at Churchtown. She then taught at rural schools in Sanger and Canfield (near Regan). They moved to Center where Oliver was employed as deputy auditor. The couple later moved to Crosby, Watford City and Williston, and Tressa was employed in a dry goods store. After retirement, they moved to Los Osos.

She is survived by one daughter, JoAnn Black; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Mary Ann Whitmer; one sister, Alma Kuch, Center; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers; two sisters; and several nieces.

Tressa was a fine fun-loving, moral person and a good mother and homemaker. Her greatest talent was in developing lasting friendships.
