Johanna Degler Draeger Dittberner immigrated to America as a widow with her four children in 1884. She settled in St Charles township in Floyd county Iowa. There are Draegers living there who are probably related to her father Paul Draeger.

Johanna name is misspelled as John in the 1885 census probably because she was speaking German to an English speaking census taker. She is a widow.

Johanna's maiden name(Draeger) and her married name(Degler)
are common in the Berlin area of what was then Prussia. Martha Harnisch (Emil) is her daughter and in the 1940 census Martha stated she was born in Berlin.
