Johanna name is misspelled as John in the 1885 census probably because she was speaking German to an English speaking census taker. She is a widow.

Johanna's maiden name(Draeger) and her married name(Degler)
are common in the Berlin area of what was then Prussia. Martha Harnisch (Emil) is her daughter and in the 1940 census Martha stated she was born in Berlin.

When Johanna's daughter Augusta married Edgar Fisher in 1894 the father's name was identified as William Degler. There are records of this marriage in both Minnesota and Iowa.
