Rosan Jeanette Sommer, age 87, of Greeley, Kansas, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014 at North Point Nursing Home in Paola, Kansas.

She was born August 17, 1926, in Garnett, Kansas, the daughter of John and Rosa (Heisterkamp ) Schwarzkopf . Rosan graduated from Greeley High School. She worked at a bank in Garnett for a few years before she married Richard Edward Sommer on May 12, 1947, in Garnett. This union was blessed with six sons. In the 1960's, she worked as a secretary at the Greeley High School. In 1971, Richard and Rosan moved to Deer Park, Texas due to his work transfer. In 1983, they moved back to their home place in Greeley. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rosan loved being outdoors, especially taking care of her garden and bird watching.

Rosan was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church and Altar Society; she belonged to a China Painting Club painting plates, along with painting several portraits.

Rosan was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rosa Schwarzkopf; husband, Richard Sommer on September 8, 1985; two brothers, Alvin Schwarzkopf and George Schwarzkopf; one sister, Florence Lickteig; and great grandson, Holden Sommer; two half-siblings, Anna and Paul.

She is survived by her six sons, Robert Sommer of Garnett, Kansas; Mike Sommer of Greeley, Kansas; Jerry Sommer and wife Mamie of Greeley, Kansas; Bill Sommer of Greeley, Kansas; Steve Sommer and wife Penny of Garnett, Kansas; Ronnie Sommer of Parker, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren, Michael Sommer, Stephanie Kline, Paul Sommer, Bruce Sommer, Jackie Kratzberg, Jenny Kellerman, Doug Sommer, Bobbie Jo Barnes, Stephen Sommer, Brian Sommer, Erik Sommer, Brandon Sommer, Kristina Sommer, Nathan Sommer, Melanie Sommer; and 30 great grandchildren; sister, Bernadette Pracht of Westphalia, Kansas; several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at St. John's Catholic Church in Greeley with burial to follow in the St. John's Cemetery. Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening with visitation following.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Catholic Church to be determined at a later date.
